Blog Post 6: Understanding Learning Preferences: The Key to Effective eLearning Design 🎓💡
In the rapidly evolving world of education and training, eLearning has become a cornerstone for delivering knowledge and skills. However, in my opinion, the success of eLearning programs hinges on one critical factor: understanding and catering to diverse learning preferences

Why Are Learning Preferences Important? ❓
Recognising and addressing learning preferences is crucial to improve retention, enhance engagement and make learning inclusive for everybody.
What Are Learning Preferences? 🧠
Learning preferences refer to the preferred ways individuals process and absorb information.
These preferences are often categorised into different learning styles, such as:
Visual Learners 📊: Prefer using images, diagrams, and spatial understanding.
Auditory Learners 🎧: Learn best through listening to lectures, discussions, and audio materials.
Reading/Writing Learners 📚: Prefer information displayed as words and benefit from reading and writing activities.
Kinesthetic Learners 👐: Learn best through hands-on experiences and physical activities.
❓What is your learning preference? Comment below!! ❓
How eLearning Can Cater to Different Learning Styles 📱💻
I work collaboratively with my stakeholders to understand learning preferences and remind of the importance to vary the design of eLearning modules.
I design and develop my eLearning modules with Articulate Rise, being such a versatile tool, I address various learning preferences with making sure the content is digestible and display the learning in a variety of ways such as:
· Multimedia Content 🎥 - video, audio, images / galleries, links, attachments
· Knowledge assessment ✏️- quizzes and assessments
· Interactive elements – scenarios, processes, flashcards, timelines, accordions, tabs
Understanding and addressing learning preferences is not just a nice-to-have but a necessity in modern eLearning design. By recognising the diverse ways in which people learn, we can create more engaging, effective, and inclusive eLearning experiences.

Blog Post 4: Exploring the world of subscription-based models vs one-off purchases
The eLearning landscape is continuously evolving, offering various models to cater to diverse learning needs. Two popular approaches are subscription-based models and one-off purchases with annual refreshes.
Being in the business of eLearning, I was curious to explore the advantages and disadvantages of both and to hear from others what they think and what option they prefer.
✨Subscription-Based Models:✨
✨Advantages:
1. Continuous Access
2. Regular content updates
✨Considerations:
1. Recurring Costs: Over time, subscription fees can accumulate,
potentially becoming more costly than anticipated.
2. A large outlay for courses that may not even be used
3. No Ownership.
✨Non-subscription: One-Off Purchases with Annual Refreshes:✨
✨Advantages:
1. Ownership: Learners retain access to purchased content indefinitely, even if they choose not to refresh annually.
2. Focused Learning: A one-time purchase often means committing to a specific course or module, leading to more dedicated and focused learning.
3. Cost Management: There are no ongoing subscription fees, making long-term budgeting more predictable.
4. Customisation: Non-subscription models allow for greater customization of learning pathways through tailoring the content in the modules.
✨Considerations:
1. Content Updates: Learners must rely on annual refreshes for updated content, which may not be as immediate as continuous updates in a subscription model.
2. Flexibility: This model may offer less variety in topics compared to a subscription-based library.
🌟Which Model Suits You Best? 🌟
Choosing between subscription-based eLearning and one-off purchases depends on your specific needs and goals.
In the dynamic world of eLearning, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Understanding your unique learning objectives and financial considerations will help you make the best choice for your personal or organisational development.

Blog Post 1: When is eLearning appropriate?
It all begins with an idea.
In today's fast-paced world, learning and development has transcended traditional classroom settings. With the rise and evolution of technology, eLearning has emerged as a powerful tool for acquiring new skills, knowledge, and competencies.
However, while eLearning offers numerous benefits, it's essential to recognise when it's the appropriate choice and when it might not be the best fit.
eLearning is just one piece of a larger ecosystem of learning.
Recently, I encountered a scenario where eLearning wasn’t the best fit for a client. Whilst I did not want to talk myself out of the work, I had to be honest with the client. The topic was too complex, the material provided was from an in-depth face-to-face session which required a lot of explanation and extension discussion was necessary.
So, when is eLearning the right choice? Here are five key indicators:
You need to deliver training to a large number of people
eLearning helps with scalability and reach: Ideal for reaching large audiences anytime, anywhere.
Your learners need the flexibility to learn at their own pace in their own time
With eLearning, learners have the freedom to engage at their own pace. This flexibility is particularly valuable for individuals with busy schedules or those balancing work and family commitments.
You need a cost-effective solution
eLearning reduces expenses associated with travel, materials, and trainers, making it an economical choice.
You need a customised, engaging and interactive solution
eLearning allows for tailored content and interactive features optimising learning.
You need to track completion and assess knowledge
eLearning provides robust analytics and tracking capabilities.
Examples of suitable eLearning topics include compliance training, onboarding, product tutorials, and soft skills development.
So when is eLearning is Not Appropriate:
However, eLearning isn't always appropriate:
Complex Subject Matter: Topics requiring in-depth discussion and hands-on activities.
Lack of Technology Access: Poor connectivity or device availability hampers engagement.
Need for Interpersonal Interaction: Some topics benefit from face-to-face collaboration.
Practical Assessments: Hands-on evaluations, like lab experiments, are unsuitable.
Ultimately, assessing context, learner needs, and desired outcomes is crucial. While eLearning offers versatility, it's not a universal solution. Choose wisely to unlock its full potential.
